New survey confirms Australia remains an attractive and high-quality international study destination
The Minister for Education and Training, the Hon Christopher Pyne MP, has welcomed the results of a national survey of international students studying in Australia.
Minister Pyne said the results of the national 2014 International Student Survey released today presented a positive snapshot of the experiences of international students who have chosen to study in Australia.
“The report confirms that the reputation of Australian institutions and the quality of teaching are by far the most important factors for international students choosing Australia over other countries,” Mr Pyne said.
Presently Australia is the fifth most popular international study destination behind the USA, UK, Germany and France. The top reasons for choosing Australia, identified as important or very important by over 90 per cent of higher education student respondents, were:
• reputation of chosen qualification (95%)
• reputation of chosen institution (94%)
• reputation of Australia’s education system (93%)
• personal safety (92%); and
• quality of research and teaching at chosen institution (91%).
“The results also found that 88 per cent of international students were satisfied or very satisfied with their overall studying and living experience in Australia,” Mr Pyne said.
“This result is a remarkable further improvement on the already-favourable findings of the 2012 and 2010 surveys, which found 87 and 86 per cent satisfaction levels respectively.
“These results reflect extremely well on the Australian education industry, showing that Australia is an excellent destination for international students at all levels of education.”
The 2014 survey attracted responses from over 50,000 international students studying in Australia in the higher education, vocational education and training (VET), English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students (ELICOS) and secondary schools sectors.
