Vacancy - Operation Manager

A Full-time position is available in the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) for a suitably qualified Operation Manager on a contractual basis. The Operation Manager plays a critical role in supporting the Hellfire Pass Manager in managing the Hellfire Pass Interpretive Centre which is located in Kanchanaburi Province, Thailand.

The centre is located in Western Thailand, 240 km (three hours drive) from Bangkok, and 75 kilometres from the nearest large town (Kanchanaburi). 

The closing date for applications is Tuesday, 27 March 2018 (Bangkok time).

Selection Criteria­

Important Notice: Applicants must provide a brief written Statement of Claims of no more than two pages to show their suitability under each of the following Selection Criterion. The Statement of Claims forms the most important part of the application, as this information, together with the resume, will be used to shortlist applicants for further consideration for the vacancy. There is no need for a covering letter.

  1. Proven experience in a representational role with responsibility for liaising with representatives of government, tourism industry and the local business community at a senior level.
  2. Proven ability to work independently and under pressure.
  3. Proven ability to manage a small team including proven ability to assess complex scenarios and make decisions under pressure to meet demanding timeframes.
  4. Excellent English and Thai language skills, both verbal and written.
  5. Good computer skills with a working knowledge of Accounting Software (MYOB) and the Microsoft Office suite of programs.
  6. Proven experience living or working with Australian culture would be an advantage (for example, citizenship, residency or employment)

Applicants must be citizens of Thailand who are entitled to work in Thailand.

Employment will be subject to a satisfactory medical and police/security checks. The actual start date will be confirmed after advice has been received in regards to the outcome of the police checks which will be carried out in Thailand, Australia, any country where the successful candidate is a citizen, and any country where the successful candidate has resided for 6 months or more in the past 5 years. Please note that costs for police checks in any country other than Thailand will be met by the successful candidate.

Please note that selected candidates who are shortlisted will be requested to appear in person for interview by the selection committee at the Hellfire Pass Interpretive Centre in Kanchanaburi Province Thailand at their own expense.

 All costs associated with the employee’s relocation to and tenure in Thailand or in Kanchanaburi, are the employee’s responsibility.
