Australia brings expertise on science, technology, engineering
and mathematics (STEM)
and Design Thinking education to Thailand

The Australian Embassy, Bangkok will bring Dr Stuart Kohlhagen, Australian expert in STEM teaching and Design Thinking to Thailand, from 25 to 27 May.

Dr Stuart Kohlhagen, PSM, Senior fellow in Science and Learning at Australia's National Science and Technology Centre (Questacon) will deliver a series of talks and workshops on “Reskill for the Future”.  This will be an opportunity to hear about how the education and creative industries have adapted to the needs of a modern digital world.

The workshop will present a short summary of recent research that highlights the breadth and depth of powerful learning that can only be achieved through hands on - experiential learning, and how these build into integrated STEM activities and programs that support the acquisition of 21st century skills.  

Dr Kohlhagen will take participants through a range of activities that highlight the key aspects of effective practice. Participants will not only leave the workshop with a new set of engaging activities on a wide range of STEM related topics (critical thinking, innovation and problem solving as well as design thinking and creativity), but gain confidence in how to design and develop activities on topics of their own. 

Dr Kohlhagen will conduct a talk and a workshop on “The Power and Practice of Hands on Learning” for Thai primary and secondary school teachers on 26-27 May at Royal Benja Hotel, Sukhumvit Soi 5. The event is organised by the Australian Education and Training Department and Office of Basic Education Commission (OBEC) under the Ministry of Education.

Dr Kohlhagen’s talks and workshops are collaborative efforts between the Australian Government’s Department of Education and Training and the Department of Foreign Affairs and Thai Government’s agencies – Office of Basic Education Commission (OBEC) under the Ministry of Education and Thailand Creative Design Centre (TCDC) under Office of the Prime Minister Office.

 

About Dr Stuart Kohlhagen, PSM

Dr Kohlhagen is senior fellow in Science and Learning at Australia's National Science and Technology Centre (Questacon). He holds several creative fellowships, and visiting scholar positions in a number of Asian Educational Organisations. He delivered numerous international workshops on science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) as well as design and creative thinking activities.  He is the only international recipient of the prized Iron Science Teacher award, from the Exploratorium - USA.
