Internship 2025
The Australian Embassy Thailand will offer internships to university students and recent graduates who have a connection to Australia and are interested in being part of our dynamic team here in Thailand working to strengthen the Thailand-Australia bilateral relationship.
Internships are unpaid and voluntary positions, offering the challenge of working alongside Embassy staff across various work areas such as:
Australian Embassy, Bangkok
- Political and Economics
- Development (Climate and environment, investment, infrastructure)
- Public Diplomacy (Public relations and communications)
- Corporate Services (Accounts, Human Resources, Protocol, Property, Transport, IT, Security)
- Consular and passport services
- Immigration, Agriculture, Education
- Defence, Australian Federal Police
Australian Consulate, Phuket
- Consular and passport services
Interns will undertake a project during their internship that may include conducting research, writing reports, undertaking translation, providing administrative support, improving systems, implementing new requirements, event support and coordination, legal and economic analysis, and communication projects just to name a few. Interns may also have the opportunity to attend training, political and economic events (e.g. hearings, presentations, seminars etc) as well as cultural events.

1-3 months, subject to the location and the work area |
Internship Hours: |
Full-time (37.5 hours per week) or part-time, subject to the location and the work area |
Tentative start date: |
March – October 2025, noting the actual start date will be subject to the availability of the work area and the outcome of security check. Interested applicants are unable to choose the internship period. |
Security check: |
*Only successful applicant* Internship will be subject to the successful completion of probity check (including police checks) and a medical examination. The actual start date will be confirmed following the outcome of your probity checks and police checks, which will be carried out in Thailand, Australia, any countries where the successful candidate is a citizen, and any countries where the successful candidate has resided for 6 months or more in the past 5 years. Please note that turnaround time of a security check is up to two months, and costs for a police check in any countries other than Thailand must be met by the intern. |
Costs associated with doing an internship: |
Interns will meet any costs associated with doing an internship, such as travel expenses, living expenses and visa expenses (where applicable). |
For prospective expatriate interns, please note that all costs associated with the intern’s relocation to and stay in Thailand is the intern’s responsibility. This includes visa fees and costs to travel to/from Thailand. The intern will also be responsible for organizing their own residential accommodation during their period of stay.
The Embassy can provide limited assistance to the intern when requesting for Thai visa(s) and permit to stay.
It is the interns’ responsibility to obtain the relevant documents and ensure that they comply with immigration regulations that relate to their internship in Thailand. Prospective applicants are advised to investigate living conditions and costs.
Selection Criteria
To be eligible for an internship, applicants must meet all the following criteria:
- Be a recent graduate or a student completing post graduate study or an undergraduate who has completed at least two semesters of study.
- Have good English language skill. Thai language skill may be required in addition to English language skill, subject to the role offered.
- Able to attend an interview upon request.
- Successfully completed a probity check and a medical check (successful applicants only)
