About the position
The Investigative Assistant works alongside the AFP Senior Liaison Officer &/or AFP Liaison Officers, providing advice on and engagement with Thai law enforcement agencies in contributing to progressing the work of the AFP in Thailand. The position may require some travel within and outside of Thailand, including to remote or hazardous locations, often with short notice or outside of normal business hours.
The key responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
- Develop, negotiate and strengthen strategic relationships with external stakeholders including, law enforcement agencies, Government and Non-Government Organisations to support identify strategic and operational opportunities for engagement with AFP.
- Provide high standard translation and interpretation as directed between Thai and English.
- Assist AFP members in developing and brokering joint investigative strategies with the Royal Thai Police (RTP) and other Thai LEA.
- Support the advancement of the AFP’s objectives, through production of correspondence, operational interaction, identification and cultivation of law enforcement partners.
- Facilitate and enable law enforcement enquiries to support AFP and Thai LEA investigations into transnational crime.
- Coordinate and provide advice to RTP during operational activity, including case management as required
- Research, analyse and report on media and local government announcements related to legislation, policy and law enforcement issues relevant to the AFP’s presence in Thailand.
- Support Australian Government Ministerial, senior officer visits and operational briefings through provision of meeting facilitation, high level translation and interpreting services, logistical support, and advice on protocol and cultural matters.
- Contribute to the successful delivery of AFP capacity building programs including identifying and engaging providers, coordinating and participating in contract management and performance.
- Proactively identify areas of police interest and future cooperation/collaboration.
- Supervise temporary Thai staff and backfill AFP locally engaged positions, provide strategic direction, establish work priorities, monitor performance, provide regular feedback and identify and facilitate learning opportunities Perform other duties and back up as required
Qualifications/Experience
- Demonstrated high level of knowledge and understanding, including written and spoken, English and Thai language skills is mandatory.
- Demonstrated high level of ability to translate and interpret between English and Thai languages.
- Demonstrated experience in communicating with influence and fostering productive relationships, while exercising cultural awareness and sensitivity.
- Demonstrated experience in displaying personal drive and integrity through collaborative teamwork and working flexibly and independently with minimal supervision.
- Highly developed organisational skills and an ability to effectively manage competing priorities, including delivering outcomes with minimal supervision and working collaboratively in a team environment.
- Demonstrated initiative, sound judgement and experience in managing challenges by identifying and applying innovative solutions.
- Demonstrated computer skills including efficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
- A current Thai driver’s license and the ability to drive with confidence.
