On 11 November 2020, APCOM (Asia Pacific Coalition on Male Sexual Health) held a press conference for the APCOM Community Summit 2020 at the Australian Embassy in Bangkok. The Summit will run from 23 to 27 November, comprising of RRRAP Con (Rights, Resources and Resilience Asia Pacific Conference), the first-ever Thailand LGBTQI+ Biz 2020 and HERO Awards.

Mr Hugh Robilliard, Counsellor (Political-Economic) at the Australian Embassy, Thailand, opened the event noting that diversity, equality and inclusion are important values for Australia and Australians. The Australian Embassy representative said “Our Embassy has promoted LGBTQI+ rights through multiple platforms in Thailand. This has included working with our partner, APCOM, on the annual HERO Awards event, which promotes LGBTQI+ rights and equality, and acknowledges outstanding HIV and LGBTQI+ advocates from across the Asia-Pacific.”

APCOM has been supporting LGBTQI+ activities in the region for more than a decade. The Bangkok-based international NGO has a primary focus on health-related issues and relevant human and legal rights. APCOM firstly introduced the HERO Awards in 2017 to highlight outstanding HIV and LGBT advocates and allies from across Asia and the Pacific.

The HERO Awards 2020 will be held on 27 November at Pullman Bangkok King Power Hotel.
