Press Release 2025 - Australian Future Skills Mission

Australian Future Skills Mission to Thailand and Cambodia

12 March 2025

Austrade will lead a delegation of 19 Australian education and training providers to Thailand and Cambodia from 12-14 March 2025.

Austrade Deputy CEO Mr Daniel Boyer said the mission aims to foster transnational education (TNE) and workforce development partnerships with Thailand.

“The mission will equip Australian providers with firsthand insights in Thailand’s education landscape, regulatory environment and industry needs,” Mr Boyer said.

“It will also provide Thai institutions the opportunity to be matched with a potential Australian partner, whether it be to deliver programs, develop curriculum, conduct research or build capability and skills.”

The mission aligns with Invested: Australia’s Southeast Asia Economic Strategy to 2040, which identifies education and skills as a key sector with potential to unlock greater two-way opportunities with Thailand.

The Australian delegation includes representatives from: Alana Kaye College; Australian Pacific College and English Unlimited; Charles Sturt University; Chisholm Institute; Curtin University; Deakin University; HEX; Macquarie University; Melbourne Polytechnic; RMIT University; University of Queensland; University of Tasmania; University of Adelaide; University of New South Wales; University of Sydney; University of Technology Sydney; University of Wollongong College; Scape Australia; and West Australian Institute of Further Studies.

Australian Ambassador to Thailand Dr Angela Macdonald PSM said, “Australia offers some of the best universities in the world and many providers offer qualifications recognised globally.

“We are well placed to partner with Thailand to develop long term capability for the market here, particularly in advanced manufacturing and services, and green skills.

“By working together, Australia and Thailand can develop a future-ready workforce while deepening our shared economic and people-to-people ties.”

The delegation’s program in Bangkok includes panel discussions with senior Thai officials and industry representatives, networking opportunities and site visits to Chulalongkorn University and Panyapiwat Institute of Management.

Following the program in Thailand, the delegation will continue to Cambodia to explore further opportunities.
