Australian Ambassador congratulates Thai winners of
2015 Australian Government Endeavour Scholarships and Fellowships

19 December 2014

Australian Ambassador to Thailand Paul Robilliard hosted a reception on 18 December at the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit Hotel in Bangkok to congratulate the 19 Thai recipients of the Australian Government’s merit-based Endeavour Scholarships and Fellowships for 2015.

The recipients will undertake study, research and professional development in Australia in a range of areas including education, nano-biotechnology, health science, marketing, agricultural science, engineering and environmental studies. Four Australians received similar awards to study in Thailand next year.

Mr Robilliard said, “I congratulate all recipients of these prestigious scholarships and fellowships. Thai recipients will not only receive a top-quality education in Australia but also a greater understanding of Australian culture and society, helping strengthen ties between our countries. These ties will also be reinforced through the Australian Government’s New Colombo Plan, under which 160 Australian students will be supported to study and undertake work placements in Thailand next year”.

“Australia is globally renowned for expertise in science and technology. My goal is to learn about Australia’s education system and to share my experience with education students who will drive the future of Thai education”, said Ms Nantana Taptamat, teacher at Khamtakla Rachaprachasongkhroa School and an Endeavour Postgraduate Scholarship recipient. She will complete a PhD in Education at the University of Queensland.

Dr Weerawat Limroongreungrat, a lecturer at Mahidol University's College of Sports Science and Technology, received an Endeavour Executive fellowship to spend time at the University of Sydney. “Australia has great reputation in sports science, especially in sports biomechanics,” he said, “and I hope to apply this knowledge to my research and to build research partnerships between Thai and Australian institutions.”

There are four categories of Endeavour Scholarships and Fellowships: Postgraduate and Postdoctoral Scholarships, Research Fellowships, Vocational Education and Training Scholarships and Executive Fellowships. Awards range in length from one month to four years and are open to all fields of study. Applications are open from April to June each year.

A total 682 Endeavour Scholarships and Fellowships will be offered in 2015 globally. 155 Thais have accepted a scholarship or fellowship to study in Australia under the program since it started in 2007. Thirty-five Australians in total have received the awards to come to Thailand.
