Protocol Officer
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) invites applications for a Protocol Officer (position classification level 5 (LE5)). The closing date for applications is Tuesday, 27 November 2018, 4.30pm (Bangkok time).
Under general direction, the Protocol Officer works within established policies and procedures to manage events which highlight Australia and Australians on the international stage. The position also manages and provides advice on protocol functions. A Job Description which also sets out specific skills and other qualifications is attached.

- CV (Resume) - A maximum of two A4 page CV outlining previous relevant work experience and achievements in English. Please include the names and contact details (phone number and email addresses) of two referees in the CV.
- A Statement of Claim – A maximum of two A4 page (600 words) Statement of Claim that addresses each of the selection criterion to the best of your ability. Selection Criteria
Important Notice: Applicants must provide a brief written Statement of Claims of no more than two page in total covering all selection criterion to show their suitability. The Statement of Claims forms the most important part of the application, as this information, together with the resume, will be used to shortlist applicants for further consideration for the vacancy. There is no need for a covering letter.
In addressing each criterion please ensure that you provide example(s) based on previous experience(s) where available, to demonstrate your capability.
- Previous work experience in relevant field with general understanding of protocol and events management.
- Proven strong interpersonal skills, including an ability to liaise with contacts at all levels in both private and government sectors to build and maintain effective and influential networks.
- Action-oriented and open-minded, interested in seeking innovative solutions to improve work efficiency and the cross-cultural work environment.
- Demonstrated high level organisation and prioritisation skills. Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team. Demonstrated experience working under pressure and the ability to meet deadlines.
- Good oral and written communication skills in both Thai and English languages; and demonstrated ability to use a range of information technology would be an advantage.

Employment will be subject to a satisfactory medical and police/security checks. The actual start date will be confirmed following the outcome of the police checks which will be carried out in Thailand, Australia, any country where the successful candidate is a citizen, and any country where the successful candidate has resided for 6 months or more in the past 5 years. Please note that costs for police check in any country other than Thailand will be met by the successful candidate.
For prospective expatriate employees, please note that all costs associated with the employee’s relocation to and stay in Thailand, including visa fees, are the employee’s responsibility. The Embassy can provide limited assistance to the employee requesting a Thai visa and permit to stay. It is the employees’ responsibility to obtain the relevant documents and ensure that they are compliant with immigration regulations.
