The 82nd Commission of Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific

The 82nd Commission of Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific convened on 20 – 24 April in Bangkok, Thailand, to strengthen development cooperation under the theme Leave no one behind: advancing a society for all ages in Asia and the Pacific.
Australia participated actively throughout the Commission, emphasizing Australia’s deep commitment to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and highlighting how Australia is partnering across the region through its International Gender Equality Strategy, International Disability Equity and Rights Strategy and social protection work to ensure that we build inclusive, resilient and integrated societies that leave no one behind, at any age.
During the Commission, eight Member States were elected to the Governing Council of the Asian and Pacific Centre for Transfer of Technology (APCTT) for the 2026 – 2029 period. There were eight candidates for eight vacancies: ROK, Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, China, Bangladesh, Kazakhstan, Russia. Australia did not vote for Russia and maintains its steadfast support for Ukraine in the face of Russia’s unprovoked and unjustified invasion.
