Is it true that the Embassy and Consulate-General will no longer witness statutory declarations stating income or bank balances?

Yes. As of 7 January 2019, we will no longer provide this service.

Why are you doing this?

The minimum income requirements to obtain certain Thai Visa’s has been in place for some time.  Thai Immigration want us to verify the income stated in your declaration and we are unable to do this.

How do I renew or apply for a retirement visa without the statutory declaration?

Thailand provides information about visa application and extension requirements on the Royal Thai Embassy Australia and Thai Immigration website, immigration.go.th/content/service_22.  To obtain a retirement visa you will need to provide evidence of having a minimum bank balance of 800,000 Thai baht in a Thai bank account, or demonstrate a monthly income in a Thai bank account of at least 65,000 Thai baht. Please refer to the above-mentioned websites for further details.

How do I renew or apply for a marriage visa without the statutory declaration?

Thailand provides information about visa application and extension requirements on the Royal Thai Embassy Australia and the Thai Immigration website, immigration.go.th/content/service_18. These include minimum savings and income amounts and the evidence required.

To obtain a marriage visa you will need to provide evidence of having a minimum bank balance of 400,000 Thai baht in a Thai bank account, or demonstrate a monthly income in a Thai bank account of at least 40,000 Thai baht. Please refer to the above-mentioned websites for further details.

How do I view the Thai Immigration website in English?

What if I am unable to demonstrate that I meet the income thresholds?

Having sufficient funds to support your stay in Thailand is a requirement of the Thai Government.  If are unable to meet these requirements, we are unable to intervene on your behalf.

Can I get my statutory declaration witnessed before 7 January 2019?

Yes. Please make an appointment to obtain this service by visiting the Embassy or Consulate-General’s website, Thailand.embassy.gov.au or Phuket.consulate.gov.au
