- Do I need to be Australian to apply?
No, the Australian Embassy Thailand Internship Program is open to applicants of all nationalities. If you have a personal connection, special interest, or ties to Australia, then you are welcome to tell us about it in your application.
- In which language should I write my application?
Your application must be in English as it is the working language of the Embassy.
- Is the internship paid? Are there any allowances?
Our internships are unpaid and voluntary positions. Only a small daily stipend will be paid.
- Who can be a referee?
We are looking for referees such as employers and University Professors who will be able to comment on your suitability for an internship.
- How many people apply for internships?
We are in the process of developing the program and we are promoting it on a wide scale.
We expect approximately 100 applications. The application process will be competitive.
- How will suitable applicants be selected?
Your application will be assessed by the Embassy. All components of the application are equally important. Please note that shortlisted candidates will be invited to participate in face-to-face screenings or interviews as part of the selection process. Suitable applicants will be placed on a list that will be used to fill internship positions for the next 7 months.
- How many internships are offered?
Approximately 12 internships will be offered over a 12-month period. As internship projects are identified, the Embassy will select interns from the list of suitable applicants whose skills and experience are well matched to a specific project. You will need to meet costs, such as travel and living expenses, associated with doing an internship.
- If I am not successful in this round, can I apply in the next round?
Yes, repeat applications are welcome and encouraged because the range of projects and required skills will vary in each round. It is anticipated that a round of the internship program will be advertised every 6 months. All interested people will need to reapply. - Can I attend university whilst undertaking the internship?
Yes, you may attend university while undertaking the internship. You may also wish to do an internship during university holidays. To provide flexibility, internships may be 4 – 12 weeks in duration and can be completed on a full or part-time basis.
- How many hours am I expected to work?
This will be negotiated by the intern and their supervisor and will depend on the project and its timeframe. A full-time placement at the Australian Embassy in Bangkok or Australian Consulate in Phuket would be Monday – Friday 8.00 am – 4.30 pm
- Can I use AI for my applications?
We strongly recommend against the use of AI generated applications.
Interns may not work remotely.
