Qantas Futsalroos impressed with Thailand’s young futsal players
The Qantas Futsalroos, Australia’s national futsal team recently shared their skills with two of Thailand’s emerging futsal teams from Pathumkongka School and Surasakmontree School. At a special futsal clinic held at Pathumkongka School last Friday, all 14 Australian national players participated in the activity together with 45 young Thai futsal players and over 100 spectators.
Lachlan Wright, an experienced member of the Qantas Futsalroos, said the team always finds opportunities to pass on their skills to younger futsal players.
“These Thai kids have brilliant futsal skills. This provides a good basis for them to learn to defend or attack. If you have good individual skill and very good touch of the ball then you can do anything”, he added.
The Futsal clinic finished with a friendly match between the Futsalroos and Thai students. Resulting in a tie, it was an enjoyable and afternoon for all.
When asked about the Futsalroo’s readiness for their first match in the upcoming FIFA Fustal World Cup 2012, Wright said “we are trained as hard as we can to show our best for our country and our people. We will go into the game confident but not over confident.”
The Qantas Futsalroos has been drawn in Group D of the FIFA Futsal World Cup Thailand 2012 and will play their opening match against Italy on Friday 2 November (kick-off 5:00 pm local time), followed by Mexico Monday 5 November (kick-off 5:00pm local time), and Argentina in their final group match on Thursday 8 November (kick-off 5:00pm local time).
