Spotlight on Australian and Thai design at
Isan Creative Festival 2024
28 June 2024
The Australian Embassy in Thailand is bringing an exhibition titled ‘Shadow and Spaces: Spectrum of Possibilities’ to Isan Creative Festival for the first time. The event is held annually in Khon Kaen and is organised by Thailand’s Creative Economy Agency (CEA).
Australian Ambassador to Thailand Dr Angela Macdonald said, “The Isan region truly embodies the richness of Thai culture and creativity. We’re really glad to have this fantastic opportunity in Khon Kaen this year to showcase both Australian and Thai design.”
The exhibition has two key features:
-
A large-scale image of MPavilion 9, together with material samples and its design story video - MPavilion 9 is a waffle-like canopy made of fishing net fabric by Bangkok-based architect Rachaporn Choochuey of all(zone). MPavilion is a flagship initiative of the Naomi Milgrom Foundation. M Pavilion 9 is located permanently in Melbourne, at RMIT University’s Brunswick campus.
-
Re-Pete chairs - each made of about 220 shredded plastic bottles using robotic 3D printing technology by University of Canberra trio Sam Tompkins, Ian Maxwell and Dr Ben Ennis-Butler.
“These are great design examples of how innovative alternatives can help promote sustainability in the community while bringing people together to connect with the environment,” added Ambassador Macdonald.
“From learning about the architectural complexities in MPavilion 9’s tactile texture to seeing the technology marvels of the Re-Pete chairs – I hope festivalgoers enjoy our exhibition.”
