‘Old Masters: Australia’s Great Bark Artists’ exhibition
at Pattani Decoded 2024

The Australian Embassy Thailand and the National Museum of Australia are proud to present an indigenous bark painting exhibition, Old Masters: Australia’s Great Bark Artists for the first time in southern Thailand at Pattani Decoded 2024.
The exhibition celebrates the genius of master Aboriginal artists from Arnhem Land in northern Australia, who have for millenia, continued one of the great traditions of world art.
Among the 10 reprinted bark artworks on display, is Totemic crocodile, painted by highly influential and innovative artist Yirawala, who is also known as the ‘Picasso of Arnhem Land’.
Australian Ambassador to Thailand Dr Angela Macdonald PSM said, “Australia is home to the world’s oldest continuing culture, which spans more than 60,000 years.
“These beautiful bark artworks reflect the rich and diverse culture of our First Nations peoples in intricate and extraordinary designs.
“I hope viewers of this collection in Pattani enjoy the paintings along with the deep meaning and stories they share.”
Pattani Decoded is organised by Melayu Living and will showcase cultural heritage across multiple locations in Pattani old town from 24 August – 1 September 2024.
Old Masters: Australia’s Great Bark Artists will be on display at Prince of Songkla University Pattani Pirom. The event is open to public and is free of charge to enter.
