Community blood donation drive helps boost critical stocks
2 October 2025
The Australian Embassy Thailand, One Bangkok, Thai Red Cross Society, Embassy of Japan and Alliance Française teamed up for “Together We Give – Blood Donation at One Bangkok” yesterday to help provide a much-needed boost for Thailand’s National Blood Centre.
More than 200 people registered to donate blood, including many local office workers, diplomats and shoppers. The Queensland Citrus Exports Group provided fresh, quality Australian mandarins for those who donated.
“This is a valuable community initiative as blood transfusions are needed by people from all walks of life – 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days of the year,” said John Francis, Development Counsellor, Australian Embassy Thailand.
“We’re pleased to team up with One Bangkok and our local neighbours for this life-saving cause. I also thank the Queensland Citrus Exporters Group for their generous support.”
Foods high in vitamin C and iron are recommended for both before and after donating blood. One unit of blood can save up to three lives, as it is separated into red blood cells, platelets, and plasma for storage and distribution to hospitals.
Only 2.84 per cent of Thailand’s population donates blood. To find a blood donation centre near you, visit the Thai Red Cross Society website.
