Australian Embassy and Bangkok Metropolitan Administration
open new community playground at Lumphini Park
3 December 2025
The Australian Embassy Thailand, in partnership with Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) have opened a new Australian-themed, community playground in Lumphini Park.
This is the first wheelchair accessible playground in a Bangkok public park. The opening coincides with International Day of Persons with Disabilities, which aims to promote the rights and wellbeing of persons with disabilities.
The playground, designed by Bangkok-based Leka Studio, features a mix of interactive and physical play activities for children with colourful softfall flooring.
Children can mimic a kangaroo jump on spring steps, climb like a koala, and explore like an emu through musical equipment.
Australian Ambassador to Thailand Dr Angela Macdonald PSM said, “This community playground reflects the strong partnership between Australia and Thailand, and provides a fun and safe space for children of all abilities to play.
We thank Leka Studio for their design creativity highlighting Australia’s unique wildlife to promote imagination and movement.”
Governor of Bangkok Chadchart Sittipunt said, “2025 marks Lumphini Park’s 100 years. This playground is a valued addition to Lumphini Park and a great example of what we can achieve through collaboration.
Thank you to the Australian Embassy for bringing this idea to life and for promoting inclusivity in the heart of our city.”
The playground is located in Lumphini Park near entrance 2, close to the intersection of Witthayu Road and Rama IV.
