Press Release 2025 - Australia joins global partners to combat visa fraud

Australia joins global partners to combat visa fraud during
                                             International Fraud Awareness Week

17 November 2025

As the end of year approaches, Thais going to Australia are reminded to be aware of scams and fraudulent migration practices when applying for visas and booking travel arrangements.

Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the United Kingdom are working in partnership globally for a ‘Fighting Visa Fraud’ campaign during International Fraud Awareness Week from 16–22 November 2025. The campaign aims to help raise awareness of visa scams and fraudulent migration practices.

Australian Ambassador to Thailand, Dr Angela Macdonald said, “Australia is a popular destination for Thais and others from our region. More than 110,000 Thais travelled to Australia last year to visit, live, work and study, experiencing our wonderful food, culture and landscapes.

As people are applying for an Australian visa, this campaign is a timely reminder to use official sources and to be aware of anyone promising shortcuts or guaranteed results. The Australian Government never requests payments through social media or unofficial websites.”

Visa fraud is a growing issue, with criminals deceiving individuals through false visa guarantees, fake visa documents, and claims of being legitimate migration agents.

Scam agents often pretend to be legitimate migration professionals and provide illegal migration advice. These scams can result in significant financial loss, emotional distress, and long-term impacts on a person’s ability to travel.
