10 Thais awarded scholarships to study in Australia

Today Australia’s Assistant Minister for Immigration, Foreign Affairs and Trade the Hon Matt Thistlethwaite MP announced 10 Thai recipients of the 2027 Australia Awards Mekong-Australia Partnership Scholarships.
Through study, research and networking, the scholars will develop skills and knowledge to drive change in our region and help build enduring people-to-people links with Australia.
The 2027 scholars are drawn from the public, private and non-government sectors across Thailand.
Assistant Minister Thistlethwaite highlighted the longstanding education connections between Australia and Thailand.
“More than 160,000 Thais have studied in Australia over the past 20 years through short courses, self-funded study, or an Australian Government funded scholarship,” he said.
“The Australia Awards Mekong-Australia Partnership Scholarships are fostering the next generation of local, national and global leaders. For these scholars and those before them, this will be a lifechanging opportunity that will open doors and contribute to the region we share.”
Australian Ambassador to Thailand Pablo Kang hosted a reception at his residence in Bangkok for the scholars and Australian alumni.
“Australia is one of the world’s top study destinations for international students,” he said.
“Congratulations to the Thai scholars on being selected from a highly competitive field. In addition to quality education and facilities, they will also experience Australia’s unique lifestyle and culture.”
From next year, the scholars will undertake postgraduate study at universities in the Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales and Victoria. Their areas of study include: economic resilience and subregional integration; countering transnational crime; climate resilience and water security; and gender equality, disability equity and social inclusion.
