  • ASEAN-Australia Young Women Football Exchange

Date: 16 March 2018
Venue: Sydney, Australia

The Australian Government is pleased to announce that Thailand has been selected as ASEAN representative to field an under-19s women’s national team to play the Young Matildas in an international friendly match during the ASEAN-Australia Week in Sydney. The match will be played at Leichhardt Oval on Friday 16 March. A training camp for the teams and a week-long ASEAN Women’s Football Administrator Workshop will also be held during the week.

  • Counter-Terrorism Conference (Invitation Only)

The threat of terrorism is a significant challenge for ASEAN, Australia and our broader region. The Counter-Terrorism Conference on 16-17 March 2018 will underscore the fundamental importance of regional collaboration to address the shared challenges of terrorism and violent extremism. Senior counter-terrorism officials from Australian and ASEAN member governments will attend the conference to share their views to enhance regional connectivity and cooperation to combat terrorism and violent extremism. They will also discuss how they can work together more effectively to combat this rapidly evolving threat, including through policy and law enforcement responses by intensifying information sharing.


  • ASEAN-Australia Special Summit


Australia welcomes members of the media to the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit, 16-18 March 2018.

This will be the first time Australia has hosted a Special Summit with ASEAN Leaders in Australia. The Prime Minister, the Hon. Malcolm Turnbull MP, will welcome the Leaders of ASEAN Member States and the Secretary-General of ASEAN.

The centrepiece of the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit will be the Leaders’ Summit and Retreat.

All media representatives interested in attending are required to apply for media accreditation. Applications for accreditation close on 15 February 2018 and there is no guarantee that late registrations will be facilitated.

  • ASEAN-Australia MSME and Cyber Workshops

Australia and Thailand will co-host several workshops on cybersecurity and digital economy in Bangkok on 13 February in the lead up to the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit to be held in Sydney in March. The Australian Ambassador for Cyber Affairs, Dr Tobias Feakin, will present at these workshops, including an ASEAN-Australia Cybersecurity Workshop for ASEAN officials; an ASEAN-Australia Workshop on the Future of Digital Transformation for micro, small and medium sized enterprises; and cybersecurity training for ASEAN business in the financial services sector. The Australian Embassy and AustCham will also co-host an panel discussion on Cryptocurrencies and E-payments in a Digital World on 13 February.


  • Australia, Thailand and the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit: Paths to Innovation, Security and Prosperity

This seminar is designed to provide insights into the key themes of the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit, which will be held in March 2018, and discuss how ASEAN and Australia’s economic and strategic partnership can be strengthened.

The Seminar will feature two panel discussions on: (1) Preparing for Digital Transformation and Industry 4.0 and (2) Challenges of Partnering for Security and Prosperity.
