Australia to offer 50 scholarships to ASEAN students

The Australian Government will award 50 prestigious Australia Awards – ASEAN Scholarships to the next generation of leaders from ASEAN countries to undertake postgraduate study in Australia commencing in 2019.
Australia’s Foreign Minister Julie Bishop announced the Australia Awards – ASEAN Scholarships on 17 March, saying that “their studies will contribute to positive outcomes for the region including poverty reduction, human rights and gender equality.” The program is an initiative of the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit, offering a one-off opportunity to study in Australia in fields contributing to ASEAN’s peace, prosperity and social development.
The ASEAN scholarships support the following fields of study:
- Political – Security: Contribute to peace and stability in Southeast Asia
- Economic: Contribute to ASEAN’s economic integration and promote inclusive growth
- Socio-cultural: Contribute to an ASEAN Community that is people-centered and socially responsible
