Australia donates over 450,000 doses of Pfizer vaccine
to support immunization in Thailand

The Australian Government, in collaboration with UNICEF, is donating 452,790 doses of Pfizer–BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine to support and accelerate Thailand’s COVID-19 response and national immunization programme.
The shipment to Thailand is part Australia’s support for the Royal Thai Government’s response to COVID-19, reaffirming the strong and cooperative relations between the two countries. The vaccine doses will be distributed via Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health to hospitals and health centres nationwide to ensure that people in Thailand, including the most vulnerable, can access safe and effective COVID-19 vaccines.
COVID-19 continues to negatively impact public health in Thailand. With more than 2.4 million new cases recorded in 2022, ongoing vaccination efforts are still required.
At the handover ceremony held in Bangkok today, Australian Embassy to Thailand First Secretary David Braun, UNICEF Deputy Representative for Thailand Severine Leonardi and delegates from Ministry of Public Health reaffirmed their commitment to COVID-19 response and recovery in Thailand, and ongoing cooperation to strengthen resilience to future pandemics.
This vaccine donation builds on Australia’s ongoing support of Thailand’s response to COVID‑19. Through the Vaccine Access and Health Security Initiative, Australia has provided technical and vaccine delivery assistance to Thai authorities, valued at AUD2.8 million.
UNICEF has been supporting the Royal Thai Government in its national COVID-19 response since early 2020 through delivering millions of hygiene, medical and learning supplies to children and their families, including the most vulnerable populations such as migrant communities. UNICEF also supported government and non-governmental partners in establishing a community response system to help children and families access health and child protection services as well as other critical assistance during the peak of the outbreak.
