Australian and Thai experts host free coffee tasting workshop
5 May 2026
The Australian Embassy Thailand is collaborating with specialty coffee roasters Roots and Coffee Mentality to host a free public Coffee Tasting Workshop this Sunday 10 May 2026, at Roots at Ratchathewi.
Coffee lovers will hear about the bean to cup journey, guided by Thai and Australian experts following their participation in World of Coffee Bangkok. Participants will have the opportunity to taste award-winning, single origin Australian-grown coffee beans, along with varieties grown in Thailand.
Australian Ambassador to Thailand Dr Angela Macdonald PSM said the workshop celebrates more than just a good cup of coffee.
“Thailand and Australia have excellent coffee cultures, so this workshop is a great way for participants to share and compare flavours, while learning from cup taster champions from both countries. Coffee brings people together, so this is a fun activity for the local community. There are also some brew-tiful prizes to be won.”
Coffee champions featured in the workshop are Thailand’s Chatchalerm (Boss) Lertanekwattna and Australia’s Karl Lee. Khun Boss won World Cup Tasters Champion 2025, Geneva and Thailand National Cup Tasters 2025. Mr Lee won the Australian Cup Tasters Champion 2026, and was the Queensland Cup Tasters Champion in 2020 and 2022.
Coffee Mentality is a Brisbane-based specialty coffee business founded in 2015. Their aim is to use coffee as a platform to inspire change, build community and create social impact across borders.
Roots is an established brand with 10 branches across Bangkok. They believe that coffee should not only taste good, but also reflect the goodwill and good intentions that go into every cup. Since 2013, Roots has been dedicated to developing and showcasing Thai specialty coffee.
